ANVC truce meet in Delhi today
Shillong: The crucial joint monitoring group meeting to decide whether to extend the ceasefire with the Garo hills-based militant outfit, Achik National Volunteers Council, will be held in Delhi on Monday. The meeting comes after the first political-level meet held in Shillong on March 16 with the Centre’s interlocutor for peace talks, P.C. Haldar, and the joint secretary, home, in-charge of the Northeast, Naveen Verma. The Centre has entrusted Haldar with the task of carrying forward the political dialogue to find a solution to the demand for an autonomous body.
BPF entrant
Kokrajhar: BPPF organising secretary Hari Das Baishnav on Sunday joined the rival BPF along with his 150 supporters at the BPF central office in Kokrajhar.
Suicide
Dhubri: An unidentified man committed suicide by jumping from the Bongaigaon Chilarai overbridge on Sunday.
Snatched
Kokrajhar: Criminals snatched a bag containing Rs 24,000 from a school teacher, Anil Chandra Rai, in Gossaigaon town. In another incident, two motorcycle-borne youths snatched Rs12,000 from Baneswar Tudu at Gossaigaon Chariali on Saturday.
Saw mills evicted
Dhubri: Forest officials of Krishnai in Goalpara district raided different forest villages, including Goalpariya Gaon and Dayrang and evicted three illegal saw mills on Saturday. They also dismantled 10 illegally constructed houses inside the Guriajhar reserve forest.
All-party meet
Kokrajhar: To maintain peace and harmony ahead of the ensuing BTC election, an all-party meet was held at Serfanguri community hall in Kokrajhar under the initiative of Serfanguri police on Sunday.
Stork released
Guwahati: An adjutant stork, which was injured after falling from a tree it had nested in Dodora villagein Kamarup district, was released on Sunday after providing treatment at the Assam State Zoo.

Guwahati: A free dental check-up-cum-treatment camp and awareness programme on oral hygiene was organised by Helping Hands United, an NGO, in association with Junior Doctors’ Association of Regional Dental College, Guwahati, at Dhirenpara on Sunday.
