Muivah sets Dimapur date

Kohima, March 16: The general secretary of the NSCN (I-M), Thiungaleng Muivah, will land in Dimapur on March 18 from New Delhi to brief the people back home about the status of the current peace process with the Centre.

Muivah is expected to present his side of the story on March 21 during the “republic day” celebrations of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), on the status of negotiations with the Centre. “He will give a political briefing to the public,” a senior official of the group told The Telegraph today.

Naga leaders of various organisations, Hohos, Church and civil societies from all Naga-inhabited areas will attend the programme at the NSCN (I-M) council headquarters on March 21.

Muivah had recently spelt out his group’s stand on sovereignty and integration of contiguous Naga areas. He will try to dispel all misgivings and propaganda doing the rounds, sources said. The outfit has dismissed reports from New Delhi saying the recently held talks with the officials, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and home minister P. Chidambaram, were positive.

Muivah is currently camping in New Delhi meeting lawmakers in an effort to lend tempo to the Naga peace process. On his arrival at Dimapur airport, he will be given a welcome by Nagas from various sections of society where he is also expected to deliver a short speech after which he would be escorted to Camp Hebron — the council headquarters of the group.

Muivah will travel from Dimapur airport to the council headquarters in a bullet-proof car with Z-plus police escort, with a road opening party of NSCN (I-M) cadres and security forces leading the way all along the 35km route.

Inspector-general of police L.L. Doungal said there would be adequate security for the visiting Naga leader. “There would be adequate security but we cannot give any details,” he said.

During his stay in Nagaland, Muivah will stay in his official hilltop bungalow at Camp Hebron, adjacent to the official residence of NSCN (I-M) chairman Isak Chishi Swu.
