Manipur wins 14 gold in 24th NE Games, enters semis in football

Imphal, April 21 2010: As The 24th North East Games, 2010 being held at Nehnru Stadium, Shillong, Meghalaya, Manipur won 14 gold, nine silver and six bronze and fastened its position for the overall team champion’s title.
In athletic events, Manipur won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
S Premila won the lone gold of athletic event in 10,000m run.
The two silver were won by Arunkumar and Th Nanao in 800 m runs.
K Romila won bronze in shot put.
State men’s and women’s team won bronze medals in 4×400 racing events.
In archery events too, Manipur won three gold, one silver and two bronze.
The three gold of Manipur were won by Th Usharani alone.
She won gold in 30 m Indian Round and 50 m Indian Round.
She also won gold in overall position.
H Bijendranath won a silver in 30 m Indian Round and a bronze in overall position.
K Prabhahini won a bronze on 30 mt Indian Round.
She also won a silver in overall position.
Manipur won 10 gold, three silver and one bronze in Wushu events.
A Sanatoppi and Y Sapna won three gold each.
L Jhaljit also won two gold while Ch Devajani and T Rupachandra won one gold each.
T Rupachandra also won two silver while Ch Gyaneshwar and Ch Devajani won two and one silver respectively.
P Rebika won the lone bronze medal of Manipur in Wushu event.
Moreover, the state football team entered into the semi finals after defeating Arunachal Pradesh 4-0 in the last league match played today.
Manipur dominated Arunachal Pradesh right from the beginning giving no chance to strike back.
However, Arunachal Pradesh fought back valliantly in the first half of the match.
The first goal of Manipur was registered in the 2nd minute of the match by Herojit.
With one goal ahead of them, Arunachal Pradesh tried their best to equalise the score.
On the other hand Manipur too played the match with full determination to win.
Both teams displayed a tough fight against one another in the first half of the match.
In the second half, Manipur began to play the match more substantially and in a different tactics.
It caught the Arunachal Pradesh team off guard.
Taking full advantage of the situation, Manipur scored three successimve goals against Arunachal Pradesh in just 15 minutes.
Md Sahidur Rahaman scored two goals in the 50th and 61st minutes of the match while the fourth goal of Manipur was scored in the 65th minute of the match by Naoton.
On the other hand Arunachal Pradesh failed to score a single goal against Manipur and lost the match.
Manipur will fight Mizoram in the semi final match tomorrow at 11 am in the morning.
