Imphal, April 17: The state contingent comprising 194 players have left Imphal today for Shillong to represent Manipur in the ensuing 24th North East Games which is to be held at Shillong, Meghalaya from April 20 to 23rd next.
Manipur will participate in athletic, Archery, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Football, Judo, Karate, Table Tennis and Wushu events.
Altogether 32 sprinters including two officials will compete in athletic events, while 18 members including two officials formed the state archery team. The Basketball team consists of 26 members including two officials.
Badminton team has 10 members, boxing team has 19 members, football team has 17 members, Judo team has 14 members, karate team has 21 members, table tennis team has 10 members and Wushu team has 27 members. Each team has two officials each.
Ch Shantikumar, Deputy Director, Sports, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports is the Chef-De-Mission of the state contingent. Other officials of the state contingent were GA SAnatomba, Th Brojen, Y Binod as Laison Officers and P Jamuna as Ladies-in-Charge.
Secretary, All Manipur Football Association (AMFA), L Ranjit Roy flagged off the state contingent from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
It may be noted that Manipur had emerged team champion in Wushu, Judo, Athletic and Karate events in the past years. Continuing its saga of emerging champion in many tournaments, the state team this year is also full of hopes to bring home the glory of champion.
