Tripura King urged to repeal AFSPA

Imphal | March 6 : Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA-1958) divides people and the central government and Manipur government should repeal it from the state of Manipur, asserted King of Tripura, Maharaj Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Burman during his two- day visit to Imphal beginning from Friday. The King of Tripura said that AFSPA should be repealed at the earliest.
Meanwhile, on the second day of his visit to the state, Maharaj Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Burman visited Manipur Palace in Imphal and met with the Titular King of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajoaba. As a mark of respect, Leishemba Sanajoaba gifted a traditional cloth to the King of Tripura.
Expressing contentment on meeting the King of Manipur, Maharaj Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Burman encouraged Irom Sharmila Devi who has been fasting since the Malom massacre that took place in the year 2000. She has been fasting since then demanding to repeal AFSPA-1958.

However, the king of Tripura was unable to meet Sharmila Devi and assured that he would meet her in his next visit to the state. Recounting the ties between Manipur and Tripura, he maintained that “the two states share a strong bond since our forefathers”. The princess of Manipur was married to Tripura prince, added the King of Tripura.

Meanwhile, on the first day of his visit, Maharaj Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Burman attended the 17 general assembly of Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) held Friday at Kuki Inn, Imphal. He left for Guwahati Saturday afternoon.
