Pillai visits Kuki camp

NATHELJANG PEACE CAMP, Feb 26 – Union Home Secretary GK Pillai visited a newly-built designated camp of Kuki National Front located in Sadar Hills in Manipur’s Senapati district today.

Pillai drove straight to the peace camp, about 40 km north of Imphal, along with State chief secretary DS Poonia, DGP Y Joykumar and other senior civil and security officials.

He interacted with the KNF leaders and other Kuki civil society leaders besides having a brief interaction with young cadres in the camp barracks.

When asked about the outfit’s demand for a separate Kuki land under the constitution of the country, Pillai said he will be meeting KNF leaders in Delhi next week to hold a talk.

The outfit’s Defence secretary Seilal Kuki in a memorandum to Pillai, said the demand for creation of a separate State for the Kukis is a process of constant struggle of the Kuki people.

KNF is one of the 19 Kuki militant groups which are under Suspension of Operations since August 2005 with the government forces besides signing a tripartite agreement.
